Modern Animal Comes to Palo Alto

Premier Properties has an important announcement for all Palo Alto pet owners: Modern Animal will upgrade veterinary care on the Peninsula when they move into 4,271 square feet at 217 Alma Street (formerly the North Face). Premier represented the landlord and the lease was signed in February 2022. With six clinics currently in operation around the country and over a dozen slated to open in the next year, the company’s mission is to reimagine pet care with a mind toward improving the experience for the animals, owners, doctors, and staff. Modern Animal promises short wait times and great communication in a comfortable clinic that looks and smells great. Veterinary use at the 217 Alma site required special city approval. Modern Animal, with the assistance of the Premier Properties team, appealed to the City Council of Palo Alto for an exemption to the zoning code on the basis that a veterinary clinic is precisely the neighborhood-serving ground floor retail use that Palo Alto is looking for. The City Council unanimously approved the application and Modern Animal is on track to open their doors in mid-2023. Modern Animal’s membership model provides free exams, thereby encouraging members to bring their pets frequently.
